Now booking until 14 November at Wollongong Art Gallery

Ideal for Secondary Visual Art Students

Each excursion includes:

Behind-the-Scenes Tour (30 minutes)

This 2-hour excursion begins with an exclusive behind-the-scenes tour of the gallery’s collection storerooms. Guided by the Exhibitions Officer, Lousie Brand, students will discover how artworks are stored, handled, and cared for when not on display. This 30-minute session offers a rare insight into the logistics and preservation practices that keep the collection safe.

Guided Exhibition Tour (30 minutes)

Next, enjoy a 30-minute guided tour of Patrick Pound’s exhibition Dream Vitrine. Known for his passion for collecting, Pound transforms everyday images and objects into thought-provoking displays. Students will explore how he organises his vast collections into themed exhibitions that tell unexpected stories and challenge our understanding of art and curation.

Hands-On Art Workshop (1 hour)

The excursion concludes with a 1-hour hands-on workshop, where students will put their curatorial skills to the test. Using images from the gallery’s collection, they’ll work in groups to create their own themed displays, encouraging creative thinking, visual literacy, and collaborative learning.

Arriving

Allow 5 -10 minutes at the beginning of your visit for the Gallery introductions. Please be punctual as tours and workshops are scheduled for specific times. Late arrivals may result in a reduction in the number of artworks viewed and the shortening of practical workshops.

Please report to Gallery front desk and advise Gallery staff of your arrival. The Gallery Guides and / or Education Officer will meet you in the foyer area.

Bag checking

Bags must be checked in. Gallery staff will advise where to leave bags. Please make sure students have all they need with them (including medication) before they move into the Gallery’s exhibition spaces.

Art diaries, worksheets and lead pencils

Students are encouraged to bring art books to make notes and reflections in. For unaccompanied and self-directed tours, if you have prepared worksheets for class activities, clipboards and lead pencils are available for students to use. Please advise numbers in advance.

Please note

We have a minimal waste policy and ask that packaging of food items brought to the Gallery are minimised.
