Donations and Bequests
Our community plays an important role in the funding and operation of Wollongong Art Gallery. This includes generous acts of personal donations and bequests.
There are different ways you can support the Gallery's activities and collections.
You can contribute by:
- Donating cash, property, or other assets,
- Making a bequest or legacy in a will,
- Gifting art through the Cultural Gifts Program.
We have a formal acquisition process which is overseen by our curatorial team, and we can only accept donations that meet our Collection Policy.
We have a formal acquisition process which is overseen by our curatorial team, all artworks will need to go through this process and be assessed against our Collection Policy.
If you're considering donating an artwork, please email us with the below information:
- Donor's full name and contact details
- Arist's name and title of work
- Date created
- Medium and materials and dimensions
- Provenance / ownership history
- Condition of work
- Any documentation or certificates of authenticity
- Context or reason for donation
- Photographs of the work
Once you've given us all the above information, our curatorial team will review the offer of donation in line with our Collection Policy. They'll be in touch if the work aligns with our current collecting priorities or if further details are needed. Please note, this process may take several weeks.
Please note: We do not accept artworks at the Gallery front desk without prior curatorial approval. Please follow the above process if you are interested in donating an artwork to our Collection. We are also unable to provide advice on valuation or authenticity of artworks.
The Cultural Gifts Program offers tax incentives to encourage donations of culturally significant items to public art galleries.
Donors may receive a full tax deduction for the item's market value, spread the deduction over five years, and benefit from capital gains tax exemptions. Valuation costs are also tax deductible.
This program has greatly enhanced the Gallery’s collection and supports the preservation of Australia’s cultural heritage. Find out more about the Cultural Gifts Program.
