Excursion Package - Once Upon a Doll

Suitable for students from Year 5 to Year 10, with learning content tailored to each year level.

Step into the imaginative world of Sydney artist Raquel Caballero, where handcrafted dolls celebrate icons from art, music, fashion and beyond. This free excursion includes a guided tour of Once Upon a Doll, followed by a hands-on workshop where students create their own hero doll using recycled materials.

Best of all, every doll will become part of the exhibition—offering students the unique opportunity to see their work on display.

Guided Exhibition Tour (30 minutes)

Explore Once Upon a Doll, a new body of work by Raquel Caballero which celebrates the make-believe world of dolls and the eccentricities of those who collect them. Blending papier-mâché, textiles and recycled materials, she stages a series of exuberant tableaux where her idols are reimagined as pint-sized demigods.

Doll Making Workshop (1.5 hours)

In this workshop, students will design and create your own hero - real or imaginary - using recycled materials. Using everyday items like toilet rolls as a base, then bring your doll to life with fabric, paper, and other found objects.
