Temporary Closure for Building Works

Wollongong Art Gallery will temporarily close from November 2026 to allow for essential upgrades to the building's roof and air conditioning systems.

These important works will help protect the heritage-listed building and support the long-term care of the Gallery's nationally significant Collection. The project is expected to take approximately 12 months, with the Gallery anticipated to reopen in November 2027.

During this period

  • The Gallery building will be closed to the public,
  • Safety fencing will be installed around the site,
  • The Collection will be carefully packed, transported and securely stored a specialist fine art logistics and storage provider, and
  • Gallery staff will continue working behind the scenes on future exhibitions, programs and community initiatives.

The safety and preservation of the Collection remains our highest priority throughout the closure period.

Looking ahead

While the building is closed, the Gallery team will be preparing for an exciting future, including celebrations for the Gallery's 50th anniversary in 2028. We look forward to sharing updates and opportunities for our community to stay connected throughout this period.
