Michele Elliot: what is held, is here

1 June - 25 August 2024

Gallery 2

what is held, is here is a body of new work by local artist, Michele Elliot.

Materiality and process are at the heart of Elliot’s practice and made visible through her devotion to its labour, to the work of art and the accumulation of gestures over time.

Bark, blossom, branch, copper, cotton, gold, lemongrass, linen, onion, silk, silver, smoke, wood and walnut are brought into conversation through making and the language of textiles. Working with materials that are most often ‘at hand’, Elliot reflects on human frailty, loss and longing in the form of speculative garments, architectural propositions, intimate objects and photographs.

This project has been assisted by the Australian Government through Creative Australia, its arts funding and advisory body.
